Gum disease is caused when plaque and tartar build up on your teeth and cause inflammation of your gums. If the inflammation isn’t treated, infection can result and progress into a condition called periodontitis. Left untreated, gum disease can cause deterioration of your gums and surrounding tissues and can lead to tooth loss.

Periodontal treatments keep your gums healthy. Here are a few of the common periodontal treatments we offer:
Frenectomy
Your mouth contains connective tissues, such as the tissue connecting the centre of your lips to your gums, or connecting your tongue to the floor of your mouth. Sometimes when we’re born these tissues can be too tight, which can cause pain and discomfort. We treat this with a frenectomy, which is the surgical removal of the tissue to relieve the discomfort.
Scaling and Root Planing
Scaling and root planing are deep-cleaning techniques used to remove irritants such as tartar from above the gumline. This prevents irritation that can result in gum infections.
Extractions
A damaged tooth that can’t be restored will need to be removed to prevent infection. Extractions are performed under local anesthetic and we’ll discuss replacement options with you after the procedure.
Socket Preservation
After a tooth is extracted, the empty socket can collapse and put your other teeth at risk. We preserve the socket, and prevent it from collapsing, by filling it with material.
Ridge Augmentation
The bone and gum tissue that supports your teeth can deteriorate if you are missing teeth. This can cause the tissue to change shape, affecting the shape of your mouth. We can restore the area by augmenting it with grafted tissue.
Sinus Augmentation
Sinus augmentation is a treatment we use when there’s not enough bone tissue in your upper jaw to support placement of a dental implant. We build the area up with bone grafts to provide a secure foundation for the implant.
Bone Grafts
Bone grafts are used to repair areas where your bone tissue has deteriorated, or to prepare bone to support a dental implant. Donor bone tissue is grafted into the area, where it combines with your bone tissue to strengthen the area.
Crown Lengthening
Crown lengthening is a procedure where we remove gum tissue from around the base of a tooth. It’s used to make the tooth appear longer for cosmetic reasons, or to prepare a tooth for a dental restoration such as a crown.
